Caps Extend Streak to 3 at Expense of Kings

The Kings conceded twice in 22 seconds late in the 2nd period as the Cowichan Valley Capitals extended their season best win streak to 3 games in a 4-2 win over Powell River on Saturday night.

A scrappy first period saw the Kings out to an early advantage in shots but unable to beat goaltender JJ Pichette until Kevin Obssuth looped high in the offensive zone for his 14th of the season fired from the high slot and a 1-0 Kings advantage. The Kings looked set to carry that lead into the first intermission until the Caps Nick Wilson scored with 1.5 seconds remaining to tie the game at 1. Shots on goal favoured the Kings 14-13.

Into the second and the game continued to deteriorate with a lack of form, shape or style. Cowichan would take advantage, scoring a pair of goals including the eventual game winner within 22 seconds to blow the game wide open by a 3-1 scoreline through 40.

On an early third period powerplay the Kings finally got back on the scoreboard after Ethan Kimball batted in a rebound from a Callum Volpe point shot, his 9th of the season gave the Kings some life in the third. From there, the Kings poured on pressure but the Caps would only bend and not break, sealing the deal with an empty netter late in the frame for a 4-2 win.

Matteo Paler-Chow takes the loss in net, stopping 30 shots.
