Kings and Chiefs Battle to 70 minutes

Despite a 3-0 lead early in the third period, the Kings were unable to earn a result against the visiting Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday night, settling for a 4-4 tie with the Mainland Division club.

The Kings opened the scoring early with Nick Nonis’ smart pinch following up some good work down the left wing boards with Austin Kamer and Kyle Betts eventually finding Nonis to the side of the net for an easy tap in and his 2nd goal of the season.

The tally held up through both the 1st and 2nd intermissions until the Kings scored two quick ones two minutes apart. First, Liam Lawson extended the lead to 2-0, then Kyle Betts and Tristan Mullin converted on another 2-on-1 rush down the ice when Mullin outweighted a diving Chilliwack defenceman and fed Betts in front of the goal.

Chilliwack would counter and score 31 seconds after the Kings made it 3-0 and then proceed to continue to chip away, getting the game within a goal at the 8:32 mark of the 3rd period.

Adam Brubacher restored the two goal lead at 11:21 however much like the game between these two teams in Chilliwack in November, no lead was safe. Chilliwack clawed back within 1 goal with just over 2 minutes remaining and tied the game at four with 14 seconds left on the clock to force overtime.

First overtime settled nothing, and despite powerplay time for both teams in the 2nd overtime session there was no winner to be found as the teams settled for a point each and a 4-4 tie, for the Kings the first 70 minute game of the season.
