Kings return home with 6-2 win over Salmon Arm

After six straight road games the Powell River Kings returned to the Hap Parker Arena Friday night for a game against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, and left with a 6-2 win.

The Kings opened the scoring just over five minutes into the first when Carter Turnbull’s shot hit Trevin Kozlowski in the shoulder and dropped in the crease. Liam Lawson tapped in the rebound for his fifth of the season.

Turnbull then added a goal of his own in the final minutes of the period on a rebound wraparound goal.

Near the mid way point of the second period Jonny Evans was given credit for a goal after a scramble in the crease of the Silverbacks goaltender.

Shortly after the goal the Kings were awarded a power play, but it was the Silverbacks taking advantage as Connor Sundquist came down the left wing into the Kings end and threw a saucer pass to the slot for Marcus Mitchell to chip over the shoulder of Mitch Adamyk for a shorthanded tally.

Not long after the Silverbacks first goal, Adamyk made his best save of the game on a short breakaway chance for Mitch Skapski to keep the score at 3-1.

The Kings responded to the short handed goal by scoring two quick ones just over two minutes apart to finish off the period. First it was Curtis McCarrick deflecting a shot from Johan Steen through the legs of Kozlowski for his fourth of the year.

Cam Donaldson capped off the scoring in the period by wiring a wrist shot over the glove of Kozlowski for his 13th of the season. The goal ended Kozlowski’s night as Brandon Kegler replaced him to start the third period.

Each team scored a goal in the third, first Cameron Trott took a pass from below the goal line and snapped a shot over Adamyk’s blocker from the high slot for his first of the year.

McCarrick then rounded out the scoring in the game by firing the puck into an open net after a centring pass from the left wing boards hit a body and bounced to McCarrick’s stick on the left side of the net.

The win was the fifth straight win for the Kings on home ice to improve their record at the Hap Parker Arena to 5-1. Sunday afternoon the Kings will look to push the record even higher as they welcome the Langley Rivermen at 1:30.
