OT Heartbreak for Kings vs Express

The Kings are still searching for their first win of the weekend and their first victory in overtime this year following a 2-1 loss in Coquitlam on Saturday night.

A good push off the opening faceoff from Coquitlam had the Kings pinned in their own zone early, however the team was able to withstand the Express from the outset. The game stayed scoreless until late in the first period with a Lucas Wong shot from the right point being redirected in front from Alex Ambrosio for his 9th and a 1-0 Express lead through 20. Shots 9-8 Coquitlam.

No scoring in the second despite back-to-back-to-back powerplays for the Kings that resulted in several chances, but no luck to beat goaltender Brock Hamm. Shots on goal 7-6 in the period for the Express.

The third period saw more powerplay chances for the Kings, however it wasn’t until the late moments of the third period when the Kings went to the powerplay, took themselves off it then turned a 4-on-4 situation into an impromptu powerplay by pulling the goaltender. Carmine Buono floated a puck to net that came off the goaltender and sat in front for Hunter Findlater to poke home for his 10th of the season and a 1-1 score through 60.

Overtime lasted 3 and a half minutes as the Express got the game winner through Eric Linell, his team-leading 18th and a 2-1 final as the Kings fall to 0-3-2 in overtime and 18-10-2-3 on the season.
