Preview: Kings host Silverbacks in first meeting of season

The Powell River Kings (9-7-0-0) are at the Hap Parker Arena for the first time in nearly three weeks Friday night as they welcome the Salmon Arm Silverbacks (6-8-0-0) at 7:15.

The Kings are coming off a string of six-straight road games, which concluded with Sunday’s 1-0 win in Prince George. The Kings began that road trip last Friday in Coquitlam and Kyle Betts and Cam Donaldson led the way with a pair of goals each en route to the 6-2 victory.

The following night a four-point performance from Donaldson (two goals, two assists) wasn’t enough for the Kings as they fell 6-4 to the Merritt Centennials. Sunday was the Mitch Adamyk show as the rookie goaltender made 51 saves for his first career BCHL shutout in the 1-0 win over the Spruce Kings.

The Silverbacks meanwhile are coming off a 4-3 loss to Merritt Tuesday night after two straight come from behind wins over the defending national champion West Kelowna Warriors.

Friday, Oct 14, the Silverbacks found themselves trailing 4-0 to West Kelowna 2:35 into the second period, but scored five unanswered goals capped off with Elijiah Barriga’s overtime winner.

The following night Salmon Arm again fell behind 2-0 in the first period, but battled back for the 6-4 victory.
