Quick Start Propels Kings to 5-1 Win

A goal 41 seconds into the first period helped propel the Kings to their fourth straight win by defeating the Chilliwack Chiefs 5-1 on Friday night at Prospera Centre in Chilliwack.

A great start to the game as the Kings got on the board on the first shot of the game with Ethan Kimball capping a rush down by the ice started by Carter Turnbull who got the puck out to Kevin Obssuth at centre before he found a streaking Kimball splitting the Chiefs D. Kimball’s 4th of the season made it 1-0 on a nice move on Chiefs goalie Mathieu Caron.

Midway through and another rush down the ice resulted in a goal. This time Trent Bell skated down left wing before dropping to Mitch Williams who made a quick backhanded pass to the middle for Hunter Findlater who went upstairs from in tight for a 2-0 Kings lead. The Kings held that through 20 with the shots on goal 19-11 Chilliwack.

Into the 2nd and the Kings found themselves on a major penalty powerplay when Jonny Evans got a D-to-D pass from Carmine Buono, then Evans put a seeing-eye wristshot on net for his 3rd of the year and a 3-0 Kings lead. That goal extended the Kings streak on the man advantage, scoring in five straight games.

The Chiefs got on the board in the 2nd period but the Kings held a 3-1 lead through 40 minutes with the shots on goal favouring the Chiefs 29-21.

Into the 3rd and the Kings got some further insurance again off the rush through Carter Turnbull who got a puck at centre, skated down right wing on a 2-on-1 with Ethan Kimball, elected to keep and fired home his 6th of the season and first in four games for a 4-1 Kings lead.

Chilliwack rolled the dice and pulled their goaltender with just under five minutes remaining in the game. It wasn’t until 17:09 when Gavin Rauser activated like a wide receiver off a defensive zone draw to disrupt a D-to-D pass at the blue line, worked down the left wing and centred for Kyle Kawamura to score into the empty net for a 5-1 win. Mitch Adamyk was sensational in net stopping 35 shots for his league-leading 6th win of the season.

Three Stars of the Game

1. Mitch Adamyk (Kings) – 35 saves, 6th win
2. Carter Turnbull (Kings) – 1 goal, 1 assist
