An Introduction

I’ve been told I’m “going Coastal” by my girlfriend (who is a Gibsons native)….I can’t wait! Hey everyone and welcome to the new blog for the Powell River Kings.

First off I guess, an introduction. I’m Alex Rawnsley, and I’ll be behind the microphone on Sun FM this season! I’ve taken the position vacated by Fraser Rodgers’ move to Penticton (belated congrats by the way!) and am extremely excited about getting started. This past season, I called games for the BCMML’s Cariboo Cougars on their way to the BCMML Finals, where they were defeated for the 2nd consecutive year by the NW Giants. I’ve also got some experience in the BCHL with the PG Spruce Kings, as well as doing play-by-play for indoor soccer and international baseball.

The goal for this blog is to be the one-stop-shop for all Kings news, the key BCHL headlines and the odd thought that crosses my mind. I think one of the things I’m most looking forward to is working with a team with such a passionate fan base. I encourage comments, feedback, emails, tweets or whatever you want to use to submit your thoughts on the team, the league, or hockey in general.

With hockey school starting this week, and camp after that, there will be plenty of things happening that we can chat about. Unfortunately, I’m not able to make my way to Powell River until September 14th, but that won’t stop me getting started working with the Kings. Expect a big use of social media for news delivery and fan communication, so I encourage you (if you aren’t already) to fan the Kings on Facebook and follow the Kings on Twitter.

For now, that’s it. I’m itching to make the move down and get immersed in a passionate and knowledgeable fan base like the one in Powell River. The understatement of the year might be that this team is a great team…but a team is only as good as its fans, and it’s those fans that make this opportunity so exciting! I think I speak for everyone when I say that September 23rd’s home opener can’t come quick enough!

Keep tuned here as the season draws closer and see you all in September!
