Brushett, Adamyk Propel Kings to 5-0 Win

Mitch Adamyk’s purple patch of form continued as both he and Ryan Brushett set new league benchmarks as the Kings got back in the win column with a 5-0 shutout victory over the Chilliwack Chiefs on Saturday night.

A throughly entertaining first period despite no goals and just 11 shots on goal between the two teams. Christian Buono had the best chance of the opening frame as Mitch Williams on a rush made an inch-perfect pass over the Buono who redirected it on goal but was stopped by goaltender Daniel Chenard. Mitch Adamyk on the other hand had to deal with a lot of pucks around his feet and being shot to goal from low in the zone, while the Kings went to the box twice but killed off both penalties (one of which extended to the 2nd)

The Kings got an early powerplay in the 2nd period and converted on their first chance just under five minutes in as the Kings found Ryan Brushett camped out in his office in the faceoff circle, his league-leading 23rd of the season and a 1-0 lead. On the ensuing shift, Ethan Kimball and Ben Thomas broke in 2-on-1 with Kimball holding, selling a shot before passing over to Thomas to one-time home his 4th of the year and a 2-0 advantage with goals 1:02 apart.

Brushett would add another late in the period, being sprung on a breakaway by Levi Glasman, drawing a call but scoring immediately after for his 24th of the year and a 3-0 lead.

The Kings added another right off the third period faceoff, with Mitch Williams picking up a puck on the Chilliwack line and dangling around the defenceman for his 10th of the year and a 4-0 score. Ryan Pouliot rounded out the scoring with a late third period powerplay goal, his 4th assisted by Ben Thomas after a lap of the offensive zone. The rest was done by Adamyk who battled all night with pucks in his feet and being shot at all angles, turning aside 30 Chilliwack shots for his 4th shutout of the year, all coming in his last 5 games. In his last 5 starts, Adamyk is 5-0 and has allowed just 3 goals, with 4 shutouts, a .979 save percentage and 0.60 goals against average.
