Brushett, Lytton Steer Kings Back into Win Column

The Kings have used a pair of second period goals to help them back into the win column, and earn a split at the Bauer BCHL Showcase via a 2-1 win over the Trail Smoke Eaters on Friday morning.

After a first period powerplay marker for Trail, and a 1-0 lead through 20, Powell River got an ideal second period goal, 1:01 into the frame, through Ryan Brushett. His third in as many games drew the game level and steered the Kings towards control of the game. Liam Lytton added his third of the game midway through the period and Powell River held a 2-1 lead through 40 and a heavy advantage in shots.

A tightly contested third period saw Trail outshoot Powell River narrowly, however the Kings would hold strong and get back into the win column with a 2-1 result. Mitch Adamyk stopped 22 Trail shots for his 4th win of the season.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Nathan Kelly (Kings) – 2 assists
  2. Ryan Brushett (Kings) – 1 goal
  3. Tanner Marshall (Smoke Eaters) – 24 saves

The Kings are next in action on Friday September 28 in Victoria against the Grizzlies, followed by a Saturday night date in Nanaimo against the Clippers.
