For immediate release:
The British Columbia Hockey League is pleased to announce an all-rookie team for the first time in many years. Made up of players from both the Interior and Coastal Conferences, the all-rookie team allows more players to be recognized as there was no all-star game this season.
Voting was done by coaches from all 16 teams in conjunction with award and regular all-star balloting. As opposed to finding true centres and wingers, the league simply named three forwards to go along with two defencemen and a goalie.
The 2011 BCHL All-Rookie team is as follows:
Forward – Destry Straight, Coquitlam Express 59 GP, 26 G, 41 A, 48 PIM Coastal Conference Rookie of the Year
Forward – Bryce Gervais, Salmon Arm SilverBacks 58 GP, 29 G, 22 A, 49 PIM Interior Conference Rookie of the Year
Forward – Joey Benik, Penticton Vees 60 GP, 30 G, 26 A, 12 PIM
Defence – Craig Dalrymple, Powell River Kings 58 GP, 9 G, 26 A, 18 PIM
Defence – Sam Labrecque, Nanaimo Clippers 47 GP, 15 G, 12 A, 2 PIM
Goaltender – Kevin Boyle, Westside Warriors 39 GP, 20-16-1, 3.02 GAA, .902 sv. %.
Votes for league all-stars are being tabulated and results will be released Friday, February 25.
