Glasman Earns League Honours

Congratulations to Kings forward Levi Glasman, as he earned a Honourable Mention for this week’s Player of the Week award, taken out by Victoria’s Carter Berger.

Glasman was a standout in both Powell River victories at home this past weekend. On Friday against Wenatchee, Glasman had the game winning goal and 2nd star honours in a 3-2 victory for the Kings. On Sunday afternoon against Cowichan, Glasman again tallied the deciding goal, part of a 2 goal and 3 assist performance for the 2nd year BCHL’er. The award also took into consideration the league’s light schedule between Christmas and New Years, where Powell River visited Cowichan, a game that Glasman opened the scoring in.

Glasman is on a 3-game point streak and has hit the scoresheet in 6 of his last 7 games. Glasman is maintaining his point-per-game pace from a rookie campaign in Trail. With 42 points (13-29) in 40 games so far this season, he is also on track to eclipse his rookie numbers.

Congratulations Levi!

Here’s the full release from the BCHL:

Victoria Grizzlies defenceman Carter Berger has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the period of Dec. 29 to Jan. 6, the league announced Monday.

Berger was a goal-scoring machine for the Grizzlies coming out of the Christmas break, notching seven goals in his team’s four games and adding one assist for good measure.

The North Vancouver native scored once on the power play in Victoria’s first game after the break on Dec. 29 in a 4-2 loss to the Nanaimo Clippers. Berger added another pair of goals his next time out, including the overtime winner 20 seconds into the extra frame as the Grizzlies beat the Alberni Valley Bulldogs 4-3. He also added an assist and was named the game’s first star.

On Friday, the 19-year-old scored another two goals, including one with the extra man, and was named first star again as his team skated to a 6-4 win over the Langley Rivermen. He finished off his week with his third-straight two-goal game, this time in a 3-0 win over the Prince George Spruce Kings. He was also named first star for the third-straight contest.

After his massive performance, Berger now has 22 goals on the campaign to lead all defencemen and ties him for ninth among all skaters. He currently ranks second among all BCHL blueliners with 43 points in 35 games on the year.

He is the first player this year to win Player of the Week honours for a second time.

NOTE: Due to a light schedule coming out of the holiday break, this week’s Player of the Week considerations include games played on Dec. 29 and 30.
