Chilliwack, BC – The Powell River Kings (7-4) ended the BCHL Showcase with a 7-1 loss against the Langley Rivermen (4-6) on Thursday afternoon at the Chilliwack Coliseum.

With the loss, the Kings fall four points behind the Island Division leading Cowichan Valley Capitals, who defeated Surrey Eagles yesterday to improve to 9-3, with 18 points.

Ethan Schmunk nodded up the contest at one midway through the first period. Schmunk’s one-timer beat Braeden Fleming short-side for his BCHL leading fourth power-play marker this season.

The Rivermen scored two unanswered goals late in the frame for a 3-1 lead at the first intermission. Tanner Versluis and Devin Leduc had Langley’s goals coming just four minutes apart. The Rivermen went onto score two in the second and two more in the third to capture their second straight victory, and third in their last four games.

Brendan Budy had a five point effort (1G/4A) and Jake Livingstone tallied a goal and two helpers. Braeden Fleming made 19-saves for his 53rd career win.

Matteo Paler-Chow allowed five goals on 19-shots before being pulled for 16-year-old goaltender Eli Pulver after the second period. The Kings allowed three power-play goals, as the Rivermen went 3-for-4 on their power-play.

The Kings will end their nine game road trip this weekend when they play the Nanaimo Clippers on Saturday at 7:00 and the Victoria Grizzlies on Sunday at 1:00. The Kings are back at home on October 11th when they host the undefeated Penticton Vees at the Hap Parker Arena.
