Kings beat the Chiefs 5-3

Kings won the second game of the best of seven series against the Langley Chiefs 5-3.

Kings jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals from Jordan Grant at 8:59 and another at 17:22 by Daniel Carr.

Kings outshot the Chiefs 11-6 in the period to continue the trend they've had in the playoffs against both of their opponents.

Langley got on the board at 8:23 of the second on a deflection that fooled Kings' netminder Josh Watson but Powell River restored the two goal lead at 16:28 by Mitch Labreche.

Langley closed to within a goal at 4:01 of the third but Mat Bodie and Matt Garbowsky each got one on the powerplay to make it 5-2.

Langley slipped their third past Watson late in the game but the Kings held on for the 5-3 final.

Kings outshot the Chiefs 38-14 but coach Kent Lewis said later, “I didn't like our game much tonight.”

“I think quite often what happens after a blowout you tend to think you're going to go out and score seven but you forget why you scored seven.”

“We didn't give them a lot of shots,” he said, “but we let them hang around and we've got to get a lot better.”

Kings now head to Langley leading the series 20 but ever mindful of home ice advantage and the toughness of the Chiefs.
