Kings beat the Chiefs 7-1

Kings and Chiefs opened game one at the Recreation Complex on Tuesday night.

After a scoreless first period and a slight edge in shots, Kings regrouped between periods and came out firing in the second.

Six unanswered goals and the yanking of the Chiefs goaltender after the fourth one put game one in the firm grasp of the Kings.

Second period scorers for the Kings were Chad Niddery, Ben Schmidt, Jordan Grant, Matt Garbowsky, Daniel Carr and a real beauty by captain Mat Bodie.

Matt Garbowsky picked up his second with a nice give and go with Carr and then roofed the pucked into the net.

Langley did get on the board but their only goal, a powerplay marker came under suspicious circumstances.

Mitch Pacey gave DaSilva a vicious slash as he was leaviing the ice and Alex McDougall retaliated to get the call.

Chiefs scored on the pp but on the subsequent play DaSilva and Pacey got the nods and DaSilva tuned him up. Both players got five and 10 and left the game.

“The first period wasn't very good,” said assistant coach Shane Lukinchuk.

“We hadn't played in five days and we had a little bit of a hangover from the last series but that's just part of hockey.”

“We gave them (Kings) a bit of a reaming right – we had 15 shots but they were perimeter shots and that's not our game and we got rewarded in the second with better play – our play.”

“It starts with Niddery,” he smiled.

“He's been a workhorse for us all year and he's got three guys draped all over him below the goal line and it's a delayed penalty and he outworks, outgrits and outwants that puck – everybody kinds of stands still and we're on a line change and he wraps it around for a goal.”

That's what we're talking about.

Kings had everyone doing that in the second and third periods and they were winning battles all night.

It's just game one though and the two teams start from zero on Wednesday night at 7:00 P.M.

Make sure you're there and you bring a couple of friends with you to cheer on the Kings.
