Kings Close September with 4-1 Win

Three powerplay goals have helped propel the Kings to a September-ending 4-1 win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Saturday night at the Hap Parker Arena.

Great opening 10-15 minutes from the Kings who responded to the challenge laid out by the coaching staff this week to be hungrier around the net, get better on a forecheck and fire more pucks on net. The Kings did just that and showcased a relentless forecheck in the opening stages of the hockey game.

All three powerplay goals tonight were simple plays that highlighted the need for the fundamentals over the razzle dazzle. Kawamura’s was a beauty finish but came as a result of some great work along the boards from Rauser and a nice pass between the faceoff dots from Jonny Evans. Buono’s was similar in that the Kings worked the boards and generated a chance.

Even Berard’s goal was bought about from a good forecheck with Berard in deep and Coblenz hoving at the blue line and able to pick up a pass down the middle. Fundamentals led to a lot of success this evening.

HUGE stops from Mitch Adamyk who was full value for a 26 save performance and his 3rd win. The video above highlights his glove larceny in the 2nd period of Saturday’s game. While there was the odd rebound in front of him tonight that was quickly cleared, another solid, controlled and well executed game from 35 in net.

Really loved the jump from guys like Hunter Findlater tonight. Sparked his team with great pressure throughout and was rewarded as the game went on. Seemed to relish the additional responsibilities and increased ice time.
