Kings Comeback Comes Up Short Against Surrey

BURNABY (April 7, 2021) – Three days removed from their first victory of the 2020-21 season, the Kings could not repeat against the Surrey Eagles, taking a 5-4 loss on Wednesday night. The netminders for both teams’ each made their BCHL debuts, with Jakob Drapeau between the pipes for Powell River and Hunter Tarves for Surrey.

Early in the first period, Brandon Santa Juana scored on a breakaway after getting around defenceman Brody Johnston and crashing Jakob Drapeau’s net for a 1-0 lead, which would prove to be the lone goal of the opening frame.

In the second, Josh Kagan scored his team-leading lead sixth goal of the season for the Kings at 15:11, with assists from Ben Raymond and Dylan Malarchuk. Tio D’Addario would regain the lead for the Eagles later at 18:19 with a short handed marker.

D’Addario would add a second goal 1:36 into the third period, followed by Holden Katzalay and Christian Fitzgerald to extend the lead to 5-1. The Kings would follow with goals from Branden Toye, Nic Porchetta and Adamo Santia in the final 10:25 to pull within one, but the Kings were unable to get past the Surrey defence to take the game 5-4.
