Kings Commit to Hawks Defenceman Sam Belanger

POWELL RIVER, B.C. – The Powell River Kings are proud to announce the commitment of 2004-born defenceman Sam Belanger for the 2021-22 BCHL season.

Originally from Montreal, Belanger has spent the 2020-21 season with the Vancouver North West Hawks of the BC U18 AAA League, appearing in six exhibition games. The year prior, the 6-foot-3 blue liner played with West Vancouver Elite 15 of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League, recording a goal and 15 assists in 36 games played.

“We are very happy to be able to add Sam to our team for next season. He is the type of player that makes coming to the rink every day an enjoyable experience for his teammates and the coaches,” says general manager Chad van Diemen. “He is willing to put in the work on the ice, in the gym and in the classroom in order to play NCAA hockey. We believe he can be a very good defenceman in the BCHL and are excited to work with him on a daily basis.”

“Junior A hockey is a big goal for me and it is something I am looking forward to,” says Belanger. “I am excited to be part of an environment with a great coaching staff and players and a good community in Powell River next season.”

Belanger is the second Kings commitment for the 2021-22 season, joining fellow Hawks teammate Aaron Neal.
