The Kings are 3-0 to start a BCHL season for the first time since 2011 on the heels of a 4-2 win over the Nanaimo Clippers, and weekend sweep at the Hap Parker Arena.
A convincing start from the Kings who piled on pressure, and shots, leading 12-1 in the stat at one point. The dam finally broke midway through the first period on the powerplay as a shot wide of the goal from Ben Berard cannoned off the end wall with Ryan Brushett converting on the back post for his first as a King and a 1-0 lead.
That lead would be shortlived as the Clippers would get one back through Blake Bonnar to tie the game at 1 heading into the first intermission, despite shot totals reading 24-7 Powell River.
Into the second and Nanaimo took the lead on a weird goal. A shot from Jordan Dawson went vertical off the blocker of Mitch Adamyk, rolling back in behind and into the goal for a 2-1 Clipper advantage. However Nanaimo’s lead would also be shortlived as just 97 seconds later, the Kings would come back on a good pick at centre from Jayden Lee who advanced it ahead to Ryan Brushett to score five hole on Landon Pavlisin, and a 2-2 game.
The score would stay that way until late in the period when the Kings scored a pair 44 seconds apart. First, Kyle Kawamura found a tip on a Jack Long shot from the right wing wall for his first of the season and a 3-2 score. Then on the next play, Neal Samanski cashed in after an earlier miss on a centering feed from Ben Berard for his first of the year and a 4-2 advantage. Shots 14-5 Powell River in the frame.
No scoring in third as the Kings came away with a 4-2 win. Mitch Adamyk stopping 18 of 20 for his 3rd win of the season.
