Kings Drop Charged Affair vs Clippers

The Island Division Semi Final series between the Kings and Nanaimo Clippers is now a best of five, with Nanaimo holding home ice advantage on the heels of a 2-1 Clipper victory on game 2 of the series on Saturday night at the Hap Parker Arena.

The Kings, much like game 1, out to a quick start with a few key scoring opportunities but were unable to beat Jordan Naylor in net for the Clippers. Despite dominating much of the first period, leading comfortably in shots and chances, the Kings conceded the first goal through a nice give and go for Ethan Scardina to beat Adamyk in close for his first of the playoffs with 3 minutes remaining in the first period.

Powell River came back the very next shift with Rowan Miller stepping into a slapshot from the top of the right circle on a rush down the ice, the shot beating Naylor clean who didn’t pick it up off the stick. Miller’s 1st BCHL playoff goal and a 1-1 score.

Nanaimo went to the powerplay late in the period and capitalized before the first was over as Gunnar Wegleitner shot from between the top of the circles, deflecting off a couple of bodies and up high in the air. It looped down in front of Adamyk who was beaten to it by the stick of Scardina for his 2nd of the game and a 2-1 Nanaimo lead through 20.

No scoring in the second as Nanaimo clamped down and Powell River failed to find a way through the Nanaimo defence. Shots dried up, chances were often one and done in the offensive zone and the Kings weren’t able to generate much quality offensively, gaining just 17 shots on goal thorugh the 2nd and 3rd periods combined for a 2-1 Nanaimo win.

Both teams with 4 chances on the powerplay, Nanaimo converting on 1 while the Kings went 0/4.
