Kings Fly back in time with Retro Jersey’s

Today as part of the 60th BCHL season celebrations, the league revealed each teams retro jersey that they will wear throughout the season. Each team will host a retro night where they will wear their retro jerseys and will also have the option to wear them as an alternate this season.

Abbotsford Flyers Logo

For us here in Powell River we decided to go way back to our history before Powell River and pay tribute to the Abbotsford and Delta Flyers who preceded us.

The Abbotsford Flyers were founded in 1976 and lasted until 1988. In that span the Flyers only missed the playoffs once and were BCHL, Mowat Cup, and Doyle Cup champions in 1983. There most notable alumni was Larry Melnyk who who had an NHL career spanning 10 years including 3 with the Canucks and was a Stanley Cup champion with the Edmonton Oilers in 1985. From Abbotsford the team would move on to Delta in 1985 and spend 3 seasons there before Joe Mastrodonato bought the team in 1988 and moved them here to Powell River and rebranded them the “Paper Kings”

The Kings retros pay homage to the old logo with the new jerseys, substituting the “A” with the “PR” while sticking to the same green and gold colour scheme that the team has a for years, but for the first time in team history the gold will be the primary colour.

The date for when the Kings will dawn these at the Hap is still TBD but once it is made official it will be posted on all of our social media. To see the rest of the retro jersey’s from around the BCHL check out the video below
