Kings lose 4-3 in overtime to Chilliwack

Chilliwack, BC – The Powell River Kings (13-14-1) lost 4-3 in overtime to the Chilliwack Chiefs (14-9-5) on Friday night inside the Chilliwack Coliseum.

Cooper Moore took a backdoor pass from Brett Willits and popped it into the open net for the game-winner just 1:37 in overtime. Moore grabbed his defencemen leading ninth goal this season, while Willits tallied his third assist of the game.

The Kings trailed 2-0 after one, but later scored three unanswered goals late in the second period for a 3-2 lead after two periods of play. Ethan Schmunk scored his sixth to put the Kings on the board, and Davis Pennington’s rocket from the slot tied the game a minute later for his first BCHL goal. Dawson McKay gave the Kings the lead with his ninth of the season, potting home a rebound in the crease.

Trevor Adams tied the game 3-3 early in the third with a shot from the left-circle. The Kings outshot the Chiefs 35-34 and 17-9 in the second period, which led to their three unanswered goals.

Kings goaltender Derek Krall made 30-saves in the loss (10-4-1) while Chiefs goaltender Kolby Thornton made 32-saves in the win (5-4).

Hunter McCoy tallied an assist, extending his point-streak to six games (3G/3A) while Brett Roloson extended his point-streak to seven games (4G/6A) with an assist. The Kings are now 5-3-1 in November.

The Powell River Kings are back in action Friday, November 29th at 7:00 p.m., at West Kelowna. The Kings will end this three game road trip, Sunday in Prince George at 3:00 p.m., before coming home for the Teddy Bear Toss on Friday, December 6th.
