Kings outlast Express in overtime

BURNABY (April 24, 2021) – Saturday afternoon saw the Powell River Kings come out with a 5-4 overtime win over the Coquitlam Express. With the win, the Kings were able to string back-to-back wins for the first time in the 2021 season.

Powell River led 41-27 in the shot category throughout the game. Kings goaltender Nick Peters made 24 saves for his second win of the season, while Dylan Kruss put aside 37 shots for the Express.

Powell River jumped to a 2-1 lead after the first period with goals from Caleb Parkhouse on the power play and Dylan Hewlett. Coquitlam’s Austin Fraser put his team on the board midway through the opening period.

Teams exchanges goals again in the second with Nolan Krogfoss converting on the power play for his fourth of the season. The Express’ leading scorer Ryan Tattle put home his seventh of the year the make it a 3-2 Kings lead through 40 minutes.

Tyler Schleppe tied the game for Coquitlam on the power player at 10:13 of the third period, but Ethan Riesterer would put the game away at 3:12 of overtime to give Powell River the victory.

The Kings return to action on Sunday afternoon at Scotia Barn against the Surrey Eagles, puck drop is at 1pm.
