Kings Rally for Shootout Win in Salmon Arm

The Powell River Kings left their run late, but a pair of goals inside the final three minutes forced overtime and eventually a shootout where Mitch Adamyk stood tall, leading the Kings to their 2nd win in the shootout this season, a 4-3 score over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.

A rough first period from the Kings with a lot of continuation from a disappointing Friday night in Penticton as the Silverbacks got out to a 2-0 lead, including one on the powerplay.

The Kings got positive momentum in the 2nd period through an early goal with Neal Samanski feeding the point and affiliate defenceman Cam Newson passing over to Ryan Pouliot to make a nice move and wrist home his 6th of the season for a 2-1 score and Newson’s first BCHL point.

The score stayed that way until late in the third period. With two and a half remaining, Christian Buono took a puck behind the net and attempted to wrap around Ethan Langenegger, but the rebound from the save kicked out from to Williams to bury in tight, his 12th and a 2-2 game.

Salmon Arm countered and restored the lead a minute later through a tip in front from Aidan Jenner on an Andy Stevens shot from the wall and it was 3-2 with 1:10 to play.

The Kings looked to pull the goaltender and finally got Adamyk out with under a minute left. The Kings worked the puck up to Ryan Brushett high in the zone, he makes a move on the high shot block and snipes his 30th goal of the season with 21 seconds remaining to tie the game at 3.

Overtime solved nothing so for the 2nd time this season the Kings headed to a shootout. Mitch Wiliams and Christian Buono were denied as the Kings chased from the outset with Salmon Arm converting their first chance. Ryan Brushett tied the shootout in the third round with a nice move before Mitch Adamyk consolodated that goal with a big save.

Levi Glasman put the Kings ahead with a goal down the left side before Adamyk stopped Justin Wilson to win the game. Adamyk stops 46 plus another 3 in the shooutout for his 19th win as the Kings improve to 25-15-1-0 and maintain a 3 point gap back of the Grizzlies who also won on Saturday night.

Join Brock Sawyer and Alex Rawnsley for tonight's post game show, talking about a big shootout win in Salmon Arm.
