Kings Rally to Beat Clippers 4-1

First period goals 22 seconds apart helped cancel out a Nanaimo goal 22 seconds into the period as the Kings rallied from a deficit for the first time this season and defeated the Nanaimo Clippers by a score of 4-1 on Friday night.

For the second time in three games, the Kings were scored on from the first shot of the game. This time a neutral zone turnover led to a Nanaimo 2-on-1 where Vincent Millette made no mistake for his 7th of the season and a 1-0 lead for the visitors. The Kings entered the game 0-3-1-1 when not scoring first. 3:47 into the period the Kings were rewarded through Mitch Williams sniping home his 4th of the season from short range and a 1-1 game.

The score stayed that way through much of the period as the energy and emotion began to ramp up. The Kings took advantage, scoring 22 seconds apart to take control of the hockey game. First, Kevin Obssuth tipped home a Ben Raffler point shot for his 9th of the season, then immedately after Ben Berard capped off a nice pass from Kyle Kawamura to tap in his 5th of the campaign and a 3-1 lead.

Tensions boiled temporarily when Williams and Clippers AP Lucas Vanroboy dropped the gloves behind the play and the Kings skated to the first intermission up 3-1 and leading shots on goal 17-8.

No scoring in an even second period that saw shots on goal 13-12 and two powerplay chances a piece.

The third period opened with Josh Coblenz scoring his 2nd in as many games for a 4-1 lead and some insurance as the Clippers began to unravel, taking six straight penalties to stymie any momentum. The Kings were able to restrict the Clippers to just 4 shots on goal in the period, firing 24 on Clipper netminder Austin Roden and closing out a 4-1 win. The Kings outshot the Clippers 54-24 in the game. Mitch Adamyk stopped 23 straight shots for his 7th win of the season.

The game sets a new season high for shots on goal with 54, eclipsing the 51 shot performance in a 9-7 over Cowichan in September. The 24 shots against is the 4th fewest this season and the 3rd straight game where the Kings have kept opposition under 30 shots. With 1 assist, Gavin Rauser registered his 50th point in the BCHL as well.
