Kings turn the tables on the Vees 4-1

Now that's the way to exact revenge.

Kings were still stinging from their 4-1 loss in Penticton on Saturday but feel much better after beating the Vees by the same score at Hap Parker Arena on Tuesday night.

To set the tone Kings' Williams and Vees' Johnson dropped them at 0:28 seconds and Williams wasn't fooling around as he tossed some great shots and dropped Johnson to the ice. Both teams applauded the players and the heavy hitting immediately resumed from both sides.

The scoring played out exactly the same way as the game in Penticton but this time the Vees were the ones who got the first goal.

After a torrid pace in the first period Vees took the lead on the powerplya with a nice top shelf shot from a bad angle by Iacobellis.

But just like the Kings in Penticton, they couldn't stop the waves of Kings coming at them on Tuesday and slowly but surely the Kings took control.

Kings thought they had tied the game when they scored midway through the period but the ref was pointing to the net which had come off with the help of O'Donnell who got a delay of game penalty – a good one that saved the goal.

Credit the Kings with a strong effort to start the second period and they continued to lay the body on the Vees.

It looked like the Vees were slowing up from the physicallity and Kings took advantage when Dasilva took a shot from the blueline and the rebound bounced to Cohen Adair who worked across the slot and backhanded the puck by Rumpel.

His goal at 5:20 was at even strength but the go ahead goal was a powerplay effort by Chad Niddery who deflected a Jon Jutzi slapshot that drifted through traffic by a heavily screened Rumpel.

Kings led 2-1 after the second, had widened the shot gap to 29-15 and looked very confident and capable of holding on to the lead.

They gave themselves some breathing room when Niddery and Garbowsky teamed up to score while killing a penalty.

Niddery stole the puck and whirled around where he spotted Garbowksy open in the slot. He hit him with a perfect pass and number 9 drilled home the one timer to make it 3-1.

Kings are money with a two goal lead and with Vees pressing they turned the puck over a few times to give the Kings a couple of breakaways.

Williams didn't capitalize on his chance but Pettitt, with no less than four Vees in pursuit, wired his shot low to the glove of Rumpel for the 4-1 final.

A complete effort by the Kings tonight including a solid performance from Sean Maguire. He showed off a hot glove as he stoned several Vees, including O'Donnell twice late in the game, and was very deserving of the second star.

Chris Williams was doing it all for the Kings tonight and he said matter of factly, “that's how we play.”

“When we were up there in the interior we pretty much had four bad games including the two we won.”

“It was an absolute terrible effort Saturday night in Penticton,” he stated, “and this was a test for us to see what we're really made of and we passed it tonight..”

“The way we started the game tonight is the way we had to play for the full 60 and we did.”

It was gratifying to see the Kings rewarded for their effort and back on track so soon after the road trip.

Next up for the Kings is Cowichan on Friday and then Victoria and the big raffle draw for the Equinox from Massullo Motors on Sunday at 1:30 P.M.
