Lopsided Express hand Kings third consecutive loss

BURNABY (May 3, 2021) – The Powell River Kings were unable to find their footing Monday night, ultimately falling 8-2 to the Coquitlam Express. With the win, the Express were able to end a nine game losing streak.

The Express opened the game with a pair of goals in the first period from Christian MacDougall and Tyler Schleppe. The Kings were outshot 19-2 and allowed a power play goal.

In the second period, Keeton Oakley would score what would be the eventual game winner at 6:30 for the Express. A shorthanded goal from Ryan Tattle and Christian MacDougall’s second of the night would add to Coquitlam’s lead. Ethan Riesterer and Nolan Krogfoss assisted Jacob Bonkowski at 8:08 for the Kings’ first goal of the game.

MacDougall would complete his hat trick midway through the third, with Will Dow-Kenny and Sam Marit getting additional markers for the Express. The Kings would get late power-play marker from Owen Barrow set up by Keagen Abbott with 17 seconds left in the game.

Coquitlam netminder Jaden Little made 18 saves en route to his first career BCHL win while Jakob Drapeau put up 34 stops on the game for the Kings.

The Kings take to the ice on Wednesday at 7:30pm against the Surrey Eagles for their third-last game of the season.
