Moran scores his eighth, but the Kings lose 6-1 to the Express

Coquitlam, BC – The Coquitlam Express (11-3) handed the Powell River Kings (7-10) their seventh straight loss, 6-1 at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Centre on Sunday afternoon.

Cooper Connell opened the scoring just over three minutes into the game, beating Braedy Euerby from the mid slot. That was the first of four unanswered goals scored for the Express in the first period which chased Euerby. Matteo Paler-Chow came in and stopped seven of eight shots before leaving the game with an injury in the second period.

Reilly Moran put the Kings on the board late in the second, making it 4-1 after one. The Milton, MA native found the puck in a scramble, and potted home his team leading eighth goal this season, while also giving him goals in back-to-back games.

Jack Watson made his first career BCHL start, and picked up his first career win after making 21-saves in the Express’ Mainland Division leading 11th win. The Express are now third in the BCHL standings.

The Kings took a season high 27 penalty minutes, but limited the Express to just one power-play goal. Powell River also scored a power-play goal for the fourth straight game.

The Kings are back at home this week. First, they’ll host the defending champion’ Prince George Spruce Kings on Thursday, followed by the Vernon Vipers on Friday.
