Overtime falls short for Kings against Eagles

BURNABY (April 28, 2021) – A back and forth affair led to the Surrey Eagles coming out with a 4-3 overtime win against the Powell River Kings Wednesday night in Burnaby.

Nolan Krogfoss opening the scoring 9:29 into the first period with helpers from Sam Belanger and Jacob Bonkowski, who would assist on each King goal and eventually earn third star honours. Former Kings Michael Abgrall connected with Jacob Slipec at 12:59 to tie the game at one after the opening period.

The two sides continued to exchange goals in the second, with Gabe Schovanek scoring 1:06 into the period to give the Eagles their first lead of the hockey game. The Kings would respond with Ben Raymond getting his fourth of the year at 9:33.

The Kings would get the lead back 8:47 into the third period with Adamo Santia scoring against his former team and getting his tenth of the season. A shorthanded goal from Christian Fitzgerald over two minutes later would send the game into overtime.

In the extra frame, Brandon Santa Juana found the back of the net for an unassisted game winner at 2:08.

Max Prazma put up 31 saves on the night for the Eagles, while Nick Peters stood tall putting aside 25 of 29 shots.

The Kings will return to action for their 15th game of the season when they face the Coquitlam Express on Friday, April 30th at 7:30pm.
