Season Best Powerplay Sees Kings Sail Past Caps

A season-best 4-for-6 night on the powerplay saw the Kings score 6 unanswered goals and close out a season series with their 7th win against Cowichan this year, their 3rd in a row and 24th on the season, a 6-2 win on Sunday afternoon.

A pretty bleak opening 20 that saw a lot happen, but in the same fashion not a lot occur. Both teams enjoyed powerplay time, however a combined 16 shots with 8 each saw the game scoreless heading into the first intermission.

Cowichan came out firing in the second and took the game to Powell River, dominating the shot totals and finding a pair past Mitch Adamyk and the Kings to lead 2-0. Powell River then responded midway through the period on a good loop behind the goal from Nolan Krogfoss, who registered his first BCHL point by assisting on Rowan Miller’s tally to make it 2-1.

Then with a late second period powerplay, the Kings were able to tie the game on the rush as Levi Glasman put a sharp angle shot on goal that grazed off the pad and found Christian Buono near the far post, his 9th of the year and a 2-2 game through 40.

The third was all Powell River as Cowichan began to unravel by taking multiple penalties, including a five minute major for butt-ending. Levi Glasman opened the period with a pair of goals, his 12th and 13th both coming on the man advantage to make it 4-2, before Neal Samanski converted also on the powerplay and Ethan Kimball rounded out the scoring with a deflected puck past goaltender Jack Grant for a 6-2 lead. Mitch Adamyk stopped 29 Cowichan shots as the Kings maintained composure to close out the win.

Powell River wins the season series 7-1 over the Cowichan Valley Capitals. The 4/6 record on the powerplay is the 4th time this season the Kings have scored 3 or more goals against the Capitals on the powerplay (5th time overall against all opponents), going 17/46 (37%) in the season series.
