Season finale sees Kings fall to Express

BURNABY (May 8, 2021) – The Powell River Kings wrapped up the 2020-21 season with a 7-2 loss to the Coquitlam Express on Saturday afternoon.

Coquitlam opened the scoring at the 14:28 mark of the first period with Ryan Suzukovich notching his second of the season. Ben Brunette would score two minutes later to tie the game on the power play for the Kings, with Ethan Riesterer and Jacob Bonkowski getting assists.

The Express would proceed to score six unanswered goals, with a pair in the second period and  four in the third period. Aaron Neal would add a second goal for Powell River with six minutes remaining with helpers credited to Caleb Parkhouse and Ben Raymond, the eventual final goal of the season.

The final shot count 31-25 in favour of the Kings, with Nick Peters who made 13 saves, split time in the crease with Jakob Drapeau who stopped all 5 shots faced. Dylan Kruss put aside 29 shots for the victory for Coquitlam.

The Kings finished the shortened campaign with a record of 7-11-1-1, with final placement in the standings to be determined on Sunday when Coquitlam faces Surrey.

BCHL Burnaby pod individual player awards, including Most Valuable Player, Top Defenceman, Top Goalie, Top Rookie and Top Scorer, will be determined at the conclusion of the season.
