Special Teams Sink Kings

A 4/9 Nanaimo Clipper powerplay told the whole story as the Clippers earned a weekend split in Powell River with a 4-0 shutout of the Kings on Saturday night.

A season high parade to the penalty box opened in the first period with the Kings being taken for a trio of powerplay goals. First Jamie Collins at 9:01, then Cal Babych at 17:09 and finally at 19:45 Parker Colley completed a 3-0 first period. The Clippers were 3/4 in the period on the powerplay and started the 2nd with a long 5-on-3.

The Kings came out strong in the 2nd and killed off penalties to Gavin Rauser and Jack Long to open the period, and continually threatened the Nanaimo net but were unable to beat Nanaimo goalie Taz Burman. The Clippers put another nail in the Kings coffin midway through with Preston Brodziak to make it 4-0.

For the second straight game, the Kings restricted Nanaimo to four 3rd period shots, but no scoring in the 3rd period saw the Kings shutout on home ice by a 4-0 score.

Next for the Kings is a 6-game swing away from the Hap Parker Arena split over two weekends. First, a long interior trip that sees the team visit Wenatchee on Friday night, Penticton on Saturday and Salmon Arm Sunday afternoon. All the action will be live on 95.7 CoastFM and HockeyTV.
