Adamyk, Kings Shutout Bulldogs 3-0

Mitch Adamyk has his 2nd career BCHL shutout, a 33 save performance which propelled the Kings to a much need victory and snapping a 4-game losing skid in the process with a 3-0 win over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs on Tuesday night.

Despite some early whistles preventing either team from getting on a roll, there was a good early pace as the Kings and Bulldogs each got chances on each others goal. However it was the Bulldogs to get the bulk of the first period opportunities as they used a mid period powerplay to get 6 shots on goal and keep the puck inside the offensive zone for nearly the entire 2 minutes. No joy for the visitors as the Kings did well enough to kill off the time and keep the game scoreless through 20 despite being outshot 15-8.

The Kings came out much hungrier in the 2nd period and used some physical play to take the game to the Bulldogs as Ryan Pouliot stepped in and laid a check of Ryan Miotto that turned a puck over to Ethan Martini. Martini skated in and dangled past a pair of Bulldogs players, then slid the puck over to Mitch Williams who converted for his 9th of the year and a 1-0 game. That score held through 40 with the Kings outshooting Alberni 19-8 in the frame.

The third saw a more even game in terms of shots and overall chances, however it was the Kings to make the most of theirs. Ryan Brushett took advantage of a stagnant Alberni defence, driving wide on the Bulldogs and sliding it around John Hawthorne for his 15th of the year and a 2-0 lead. Then less than 2 minutes later, Ethan Schmunk put the game beyond doubt with a scrambly goal, his first in Powell River and 4th of the season and a 3-0 advantage.

Mitch Adamyk did the rest, stopping several key Alberni chances throughout the game for his 2nd BCHL clean sheet, a 33 save performance.

The Kings continue a 7-game homestand on Friday night, entertaining the Cowichan Capitals at 7:00pm.
