Mitch Adamyk had a bounce-back performance for the ages Sunday afternoon in Prince George; the rookie goaltender made 51 saves for his first career BCHL shutout, leading the Powell River Kings to a 1-0 win over the Prince George Spruce Kings.

Adamyk was stellar all game long, but made a pair of especially strong saves in the first period. The first was on Hunter Luhmann as he had a short breakaway after Andy Stevens fell in the defensive zone.

The Kings opened the scoring in the late stages of the first period. Curtis McCarrick chipped a backhand shot on net while coming down the left wing. Spruce Kings goalie Stefan Wornig couldn’t corral it, and the rebound landed right in the crease for Josh Coblenz to tap in.

In the final seconds of the first Adamyk made his finest save of the night on a centring pass from below the goal line. Prince George captain Brett Mannear was parked in front of the net, but Adamyk sprawled across and got his left pad on the shot to keep the game 1-0 Kings after 20 minutes.

The Spruce Kings continued to pepper Adamyk with shots in the second, and came close to tying the game on two occasions as they hit the post. Once on a rebound chance for Calvin Tilsley and the other was Mannear on a one timer on the power play.

In the third period Prince George came close to tying the game again, as Tyler Anderson hit the post from the blue line with a slap shot.

Despite four power play chances, the Spruce Kings couldn’t solve Adamyk through the entire 60 minutes and the Kings hung on for the 1-0 win.

The game concluded six straight road games for the Kings in which they finished with a 3-3 record. Now the team welcomes the Salmon Arm Silverbacks Friday October 21, and the Langley Rivermen Sunday October 23.
