Evans’ Hits Scoring Milestones in 4-2 Win

Jonny Evans notched his 100th assist in the BCHL regular season in the first period, then scored a powerplay goal in the 3rd for his 200th point as a King (playoffs included) to help the Kings to a 4-2 win over the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Saturday evening.

An good start on an early powerplay for the Kings as they convert on the games man advantage. Two excellent keeps at the blue line from Jonny Evans and a diving, sweeping pass over to Neal Samanski to score his 5th of the season and second in as many games for a 1-0 lead. Midway through the period, the Kings double the lead through some nice stickhandling from Ethan Kimball entering the zone, then getting the puck over to Kevin Obssuth who found Kyle Kawamura at the side of the goal for his 12th of the year and the Kings held a 2-0 lead. Cowichan scored late in the period but the Kings held onto a 2-1 lead through 20 despite being outshot 15-9.

Into the 2nd and the Capitals tied to the game midway through through Ethan Scardina on the powerplay. That score looked set to hold up through 40, but a late powerplay to the Capitals generated a chance for the Kings. After a poke check at the Kings blue line, Jonny Evans, Carter Turnbull and Carmine Buono went in on a 3-on-0 breakaway that resulted in give and go’s between Buono and Evans. Evans converted and notched his 12th and the Kings lead 3-2 through 40. Shots 24-22 Kings.

The Kings took a 2-goal lead early in the period on a powerplay where some good puck movement teed up Jonny Evans in the left circle for his 13th of the year, his 2nd of the game and his 200th point in a Kings jersey.

Mitch Adamyk did the rest in net, picking up his 12th win and the Kings 20th of the season by a 4-2 score.
