Kings 2 for 2 on the weekend

Kings won their second game of the weekend by beating the Alberni Valley Bulldogs 4-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The winless Bulldogs arrived on stormy seas to try and right their ship Saturday but Kings, on the back of solid goaltending by Jeff Smith, added to their frustration.

Alberni came in with guns blazing early and Smith was forced to turn away several dangerous shots to keep them off the scoreboard.

He stopped both Mak Barden and Shane O'Brien from point blank shots in the slot before Kings could get untracked and eventually score the first goal.

It came at 16:57 when Aidan Wright took a pass from Kurt Keats and slapped a bullet past netminder Rebagliati.

Right after the goal Rob Click took a shot at the head of Stephen Hiff and nice to see J.J. Coleshaw step up for his teammate who had to retreat to the bench.

Kings went up 2-0 when Keats got off a shot and then pumped in the rebound at 9:02 of the second.

Luke McCaw made it 3-0 when he slid a slick shot along the ice and just inside the post at 16:59.

Kings last goal came in the third at 9:30 when Aidan Wright fired a waist high shot from the point and Kings' affiliate addition, Brayden Taekema, tipped it perfectly straight down and in to make the final 4-0.

King's captain Aiden Wright had a pretty good weekend for himself and offered the following observations after the game.

"We knew coming in they were waiting to explode any time," he said of the Bulldogs, "because obviously they haven't won yet."

"They put out a good effort for 60 minutes but we got some solid goaltending and a couple of lucky bounces."

It's early in the season but the veteran defenseman says communication with the Kings' netminders is extremely important.

"I consider our relationship pretty good and they've been playing really well and I do think it has to do with a lot of the chemistry we've been building lately."

The win puts the Kings on top in their division and after the weekend but they have just one on the calendar for next weekend with Langley.
