Kings 2 Kings 2

Maybe it's only fitting that the Kings tied the Kings 2-2 last night at Hap Parker Arena.

However, if you're from Powell River you saw 50 minutes of great hockey by your team but a middle period that left something to be desired.

To be sure penalty killing is definitely something the Kings have that every other team desires.

They have such confidence in their kill that two defencemen applied enough pressure to get the first goal of the game while a man short.

Chris Williams was tireless in his pursuit of the puck and after he controlled it spied Craig Dalrymple alone in the slot calling for a pass.

He got it and drilled it by goaltender Thompson for the Kings' 11th shorthanded goal of the season. (They have 15 powerplay goals.)

The goal held up through the first period but the second frame was a forgettable one for the Kings.

Outshot and outscored, they allowed Prince George to take the lead 2-1 after two periods.

Obviously there were adjustments made during the second break and Powell River absolutely dominated their northern cousins.

Despite numerous great chances though they could only manage one goal and it came from a huge effort by Teagan Waugh.

His rush and determination around the net resulted in the Kings tying the game 2-2 to force overtime for the third game in a row.

Overtime was all Kings, Powell River that is, but there was a scare when Chris Williams got caught on a long shift and two Spruce Kings broke in on Jamie Phillips.

He made a game saving splits glove-save to give his team a chance to win it but posts, bars and Thompson proved to be too much for Powell River.

Three points in two games is very good but the fourth point was there for the taking and it was needed to hold off the Surrey Eagles who climbed to the top of the standings, one point ahead of the Kings.

"It was a great third period," said van Diemen, "and we had some glorious chances."

"Three out of four at home wasn't our goal, but better than the alternative."
