Kings Add Byrne from Vees

The Powell River Kings have bolstered their forward group by acquiring 2000-born forward Matthew Byrne from the Penticton Vees, in exchange for future considerations.

Byrne, originally from Penticton, signed with his hometown Vees in the off-season from the Okanagan Hockey Academy with their E15 and Prep teams in the CSSHL. In two full seasons at the Prep level, Bryne scored 39 goals and 40 assists in 65 games. Through 27 games in his rookie BCHL season, Bryne has 1 goal and 3 assists.

“He comes with a reputation that he’s got some skill and speed, he works hard and plays with energy,” says Tyler Kuntz, Kings head coach. “He adds to an older forward group and it’s important for us to get players who are young, but have a bit of experience at this level and Matthew fits that well.”

Bryne is expected in Powell River over the weekend, and is set to make his debut either on Saturday against Cowichan Valley, or the following Friday against Alberni Valley.
