Kings beat the Caps 4-2

Kings fell behind early but battled back to win 4-2 over the Caps on Sunday.

A Caps shot from the point hit a skate and changed direction on Jonah Imoo and he had no chance on the goal at just 0:25 seconds.

Kings got back into when Luke Ripley let a shot go from the point and JJ Coleshaw got his stick on it to deflect it in by goaltender Gusse.

At the midway mark of the first period Caps made it 2-1 on another point shot that got lost in the scramble in front of Imoo and Powell shovelled it in at 10:30.

Kings tied it 2-2 at 4:41 of the second when Nogard took a nice feed from Hiff and snapped it by Gusse.

Heading into the third tied 2-2, Gonzales, on assists from linemates Nogard and Hiff, got the winner when he stuffed it in on the shortside from close range.

The insurance goal was a beauty with Dorantes carrying the puck into the Caps zone, criss crossing with Leung and then firing a bullet past Gusse top glove.

From there Jonah Imoo stood strong as he had all game and the Kings earned their 11th victory of the year.

"The five on three was a huge kill," noted coach Kent Lewis, "and Jonah stopping the guy on the breakaway – those were the two turning points, I thought."

He pointed to one line as a shining example of what coaches would like to see.

"I thought our good line, and they've scored a lot of goals just because they muscle down low and play a gritty game," he said, "was Hiff, Nogard and Gonzales."

"They got the game winning goal and our other lines gotta get a little more of that in them."

Kings gear up this week to host Trail on Friday and Victoria on Saturday, look for lots of new faces in the lineup as the WJAC players head out to camp.
