Kings Bus to the Rescue on the Coquihalla Highway

Kings' bus driver Norm has done it again! Now not only is he renowned across Powell River as being the one and only “Fire up the bus Norm, we're going to Game 6!” (brought to you by the one and only Fraser Rodgers), but he also rescues families in distress.

On Sunday night as the Kings were making their way along the Coquihalla, Norm noticed a man standing on the side of the road waving his arms for help. Norm, being the good Samaritan he is, pulled the Kings' bus over to see if he and the team could help.

The rest of the story is told via an email from Jacquie Hayes:

My name is Jacquie Hayes and my family and I live in Kelowna.  I have a really good news story for you?

We flew back from our spring break trip to the Cayman Islands on Saturday into Seattle ? stayed over in Seattle and then headed for home for Kelowna on Sunday.  We had just past Merritt and our truck lost power.  My husband Boyd and our three kids ? Sydney, Samuel and Oliver were stranded on the side of the road awaiting a tow truck to take our truck back to Merritt to await repairs.

My husband noticed a bus coming up behind us and thought it was the Greyhound ?he proceeded to flag down the bus so that we could get back to Kelowna for Monday work and school.  The bus turned out to the be Powell River Kings junior hockey team bus.  Coach Kent Lewis, trainer Brendon Kerr and the bus driver Norm Philip very kindly invited our family to catch a ride back to Kelowna.  The entire team was very warm and friendly toward us and our kids and made a normally ?boring? trip down the connector very fun and exciting.  Our youngest son Ollie dubbed their bus ?the safety bus? and felt it was the best ride ever!

Thanks to the Kings for rescuing our family from a cold snowy hwy outside of Merritt!  We are heading to Vernon to cheer on the Powell River Kings ? we hope to be the good luck to break their two game loss in the series with the Vernon Vipers.  Go Kings GO!
