Kings down the Chiefs 5-1

Kings played more like the Kings in their rematch against the Chiefs and skated to a convincing 5-1 win on Friday night.

They had a bunch of chances throughout the first period but didn't get one until Jarid Lukosevicius flew down the right side and snapped a perfect shot high to the far side of goaltender Tremblay.

His goal at 15:32 was the only one of the first but Curtis McCarrick scored back to back goals at 1:10 and 5:57 to extend the King's lead to 3-0.

Ryan Scarfo had a great three point night and one of them was the Kings fourth goal at 12:27 on the powerplay.

There were several 'pretty' goals but maybe the most memorable was the shorthanded effort by Kyle Chatham.

Lukosevicius laid the puck up to Hiff at center and he took a couple of strides with it before he dished it off to a streaking Chatham.

Chatham broke in alone on Tremblay and deked to roof the puck with a backhand but the goalie may have gotten a piece of it. The puck tumbled up and over him and rolled into the net to make it 5-0 Kings.

"I definitely saw him coming," smiled Hiff later of the defenceman taking aim on him just before he made the pass.
"I just wanted to make a good chip to the middle of the ice," he said.
"I wasn't sure who it was," admitted Hiff, "I thought it was Jarid streaking in there but I was surprised after for sure."
"It was great for Chatham to get that goal," he praised.
"In practice he's always streaking in one on one and it was a good move – good for Kyle."

From that goal at 16:22 Kings were fine until, shorthanded again, Rideout had his feet taken out from under and fans expected a call.

None was coming and two Chiefs took the loose puck and stormed the net to beat Smith for the only goal of the night at 19:11.

The third period was pretty exciting with lots of chances but great goaltending by both Smith and Tremblay kept both side off the scoresheet.

A very solid effort by the Kings and even with a number of key players sidelined, the depth of the lineup and contribution of callups Gage Colpron and Jonny Evans were too much for the Chiefs.
