Kings drop 6-3 decision to the Bulldogs

Kings didn't give or deliver the game they wanted to on Saturday night but all in all it was an overwhelming success for the little franchise that could.

After Joe Mastrodonato announced that 2100 of the 2499 tickets available had been sold the news brought the crowd of 1186 to it's feet.

Powell River should be very proud for the support they have shown for the Kings and certainly the 15 winners would be the first to say that they bought tickets primarily to support the Kings and then hopefully win a prize.

The game, however, was not as uplifting and the Kings put in a lacklustre effort to open and fell too far behind to recover.

Alberni scored three times in the first period and then quickly made it 4-0 in the second period before Kings' JJ Coleshaw got them on the board at 2:02.

Alberni restored the four goal lead 5-1 at 12:43 when Van Allen ripped a wrist shot from well out to beat Jonah Imoo glove side and chase him to the bench.

J.P. Villeneuve and Matt Joyaux scored in the first half of the third to get the Kings within reach 5-3 but the Bulldogs stuck the dagger in on the penalty kill when Haugen stole the puck from Rideout and deked Ostepchuk to make the final 6-3.

The first game back after the break is always a feared one among coaches but considering the size of the crowd and tight race in the standings it was hoped that the Kings would come out with a little more fire in their bellies.

That, it seems, will be addressed in practice this week as this one is the only game scheduled for the Kings on the weekend.

Their next game is at home against the Prince George Spruce Kings on Friday, January 4.
