Kings Host Annual Awards Night

Following the final home game of the regular season, a 7-1 win over the Chilliwack Chiefs, the Powell River Kings held their annual Awards Banquet at the Rec Complex. The evening was a chance to reflect on an eventful season, salute the countless staff and volunteers who make Kings hockey possible, plus to hand out hardware to the playing group.

Here are this year’s winners:

Community Award: Presented to the player who is actively involved in community events throughout the season
Winner: Callum Volpe

Most Inspirational Player: Presented to the player who exhibits enthusiasm, passion and compassion on and off the ice.
Winner: Hunter Findlater

Most Sportsmanlike Player: Presented to the player who plays with a high level of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct.
Winner: Gavin Rauser

Most Academic Player: Presented to the player who is most dedicated to his academic studies.
Winner: Nathan Kelly

Most Improved Player: Presented to the player who has improved his play on the ice most since the start of the season.
Winner: Ben Raffler

True Grit Award: Presented to the player who never gives up and consistently shows courage and determination.
Winner: Gavin Rauser

Unsung Hero Award: Presented to the player who brings needed intensity or levity to the team, while providing leadership on and off the ice.
Winner: Andy Stevens

Crowd Favourite Award: Presented to the player who, as voted by the fans, is the most popular in the community.
Winner: Jonny Evans

Rookie of the Year: Presented to the first year player who has made the biggest impact on the ice.
Winner: Ethan Kimball

Top Defencemen: Presented to the defenceman adjudged to be the top player on the blue line this year.
Winners: Andy Stevens & Carmine Buono

Top Scorer: Presented to the player who has scored the most goals in the regular season.
Winner: Ben Berard

Coach’s Choice: Presented to the player who best demonstrates the true spirit of Kings hockey. Hard work, personal improvement, a willingness to understand, learn and partner with the coaching staff.
Winner: Mitch Adamyk

Most Valuable Player: Presented to the player who has proved to be most valuable to the team and exerted the best performance over the course of the season.
Winner: Carter Turnbull

Volunteer of the Year: Presented to an individual who has significantly contributed as a volunteer to the Kings Hockey Club, and has done so for many years.
Winners: Terry Dyer and Pat Hurren

True Beauty Award: Presented by the players to a volunteer who demonstrates heart and compassion and consistently goes beyond the call of duty.
Winner: Matt MacDonald

Two awards were not handed out on the evening. Both the Ron Armitage 3-Star Award and the newly-named Norm Philip Plus/Minus Award are currently too close to call, and those two awards will be presented following the season-ending road trip to Vancouver Island.
