Kings improve but still lose to Bulldogs

Game recap is presented by Iris Optometry

After dropping two home games last weekend to the Express the Kings where back at home for their lone game of the week as they took on the Alberni Valley Bulldogs for the second time this season.

The scoring wouldn’t start until 56 into the second period when the Bulldogs took the lead. Ethan Bono would start the run in the Kings zone and dish off to Will Elger on the right side and would feed the puck towards the crease and the puck went off the Kings defender and past Kyle Metson to give the Bulldogs the lead. The dogs would extend their lead to two at 6:47 on the PK after a clearing attempt from Logan Holm went off the glass to center ice where Ethan Bono was there to claim it and go in on a breakaway and would make no mistake beating Metson over the glove. The Kings would cut the lead down to one at 14:47 when Anthony Yu and Nic Porchetta would go in on a 2 on 1 then Anthony Yu would make a great saucer pass over diving Alberni defenceman Jeremey Fontaine and put the puck right on Porchetta’s tape as he would tap in his 4th of the season. The Bulldogs would restore the two goal lead less than two minutes later when Emanuelson Charbonneau would score his second of the season with a wrist shot from the right side to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead after two periods.

In the third the Kings would get off to a perfect start when they would get another 2 on 1 opportunity as Caleb Benhtam would feed Parker Lalonde who snapped it passed Alberni goalie Hobie Hedquist for his first goal of the season. The Kings would push hard looking for the equalizer but got into some penalty trouble in the second half of the period which halted their comeback. Ethan Bono would score his second of the game with under two minutes to play to seal the deal 4-2.

Kyle Metson would make 34 saves as the Bulldogs outshot the Kings 38-28. The Kings power play was 0 for 3 but the penalty kill was sensational once again going 5 for 5 as the Kings now have the leagues top PK at 92%. Anthony Yu came into this game on a 5 game goal steak which sadly came to an end but he did move his point streak to 6 games with the assist on the Nic Porchetta goal.

With the loss the Kings are now 2-4-1 this season going 0-4-1 at the Hap. After struggling at home the Kings will now hit the road for 4 straight games which will start Tuesday at the BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack. The Kings will take on the West Kelowna Warriors at 1pm on Tuesday then will face the Salmon Arm Silverbacks at 10am on Wednesday. After the game against Salmon Arm the Kings will make the trek to the Kootenays. They will have an off day on Thursday then will play in Cranbrook for the very first time on Friday against the Bucks. Reminder there is a 1 hour time change in Cranbrook which means the game will start at 7pm mountain time and 6pm pacific. Then on Saturday the Kings will wrap up the road trip in Trail against the Smoke Eaters on Saturday at 7.
