Game 3 review from 'Kings of the Castle' blog:

The Kings played catchup through the 3rd period, pushed the game to overtime, but couldn’t find ‘one more’ before the Express did, as the Kings fell for the first time in this post-season, 3-2 to the Coquitlam Express, bringing the playoff series to a 2-1 score.

It was a familiar story for the Kings, as they got the game’s first goal for the 3rd straight game. Off a Jarryd Leung faceoff win, Craig Dalrymple put a big slapshot on net, and a loose puck sat out in front for Tanner Cochrane to drag around in front and slide into the back of the cage for his 1st and a 1-0 lead. The Kings skated to the 1st intermission with that scoreline, outshooting the Express 17-9.

Into the 2nd and Coquitlam would come back. Midway through the frame, Clinton Atkinson would score his 2nd of the post season, a slapshot from the point through a screened Sean Maguire for a 1-1 game. The teams remained tied through 40 minutes, with 12 shots a piece in the middle frame, making it 29-21 after 2 periods.

The 3rd period rolled around, and the go ahead goal was up for grabs. It was the Express who were able to take the lead, 7 minutes into the period. Alex Kerfoot got around a defenceman for his 2nd of the playoffs and a 2-1 lead. The Kings were then forced to chase for the first time this series, as the Express had the lead. They would finally be rewarded through a scramble in front, with JP Villeneuve finding a loose puck and sliding it in for a 2-2 game.

Extra time needed, with shots on goal 40-34 after 60. In the 1st extra frame, the Express would score under 3 minutes in, a loose puck in front after the initial save was batted home by Justin Georgeson and the Express peeled off the bench for their first win of the post season. Here’s what Geoff Grimwood had to say after the game:

Three Stars of the Game:

  1. Alex Kerfoot (Express) – 1 goal

  2. Khaleed Devji (Express) – 40 saves

  3. Sean Maguire (Kings) – 35 saves

Game 4 goes Tuesday night at 7:00pm, with the broadcast starting at 6:45pm on 95.7 SunFM. The Express win means there will be a game 5 in the series, that goes Thursday night at 6:00pm at the Hap.

Tickets are available start at the Kings' office.
