Kings prevail 3-2 over Caps

Kings squeaked by the Capitals 3-2 on a Sunday afternoon at the Hap Parker Arena.

While the Caps had played back to back games against Nanaimo on Friday and Saturday night the Kings were seeing their first action of the weekend.

They wanted to get the jump on the Capitals but couldn't seem to get their legs going early in the game.

No excitement in the first period until King's Landon Robin dropped the gloves against Coglan and the two of them traded punches in a draw at 9:08.

Even that didn't seem to inspire either team but the Capitals did open the scoring on a double deflection that caught Imoo going the wrong way and slipped in by his right post at 13:49.

Shots were even in that period but the Kings came out stronger in the second,
outshot the Caps 15-7 and evened the score 1-1 at 2:03.

A better second period for sure and as the Caps seemed to tire the Kings got stronger and went ahead 2-1 on a hard working goal down low from Luke Nogard at 5:41.

It appeared to be a game in control but as Evan Richardson wound up inside his own blueline he lost control of the puck and it was scooped up by Skrbich who went in alone on Imoo and deked to slip the puck 5 hole for the tying 2-2 goal.

The Kings and Richardson regrouped however and worked hard to get the lead back and Richardson made amends on a great solo effort where he picked up a loose puck in the Caps end, got knocked down, but bounced up to keep going to the slot and beat goalie, Lacouvee, with a clean hard shot.

Kings held on to the one goal lead and posted a 3-2 win to virtually clinch a playoff spot in March.
