Kings Sweep Parents Weekend, 4-1 over Clippers

The Powell River Kings have swept the 2018 Parents Weekend, won their fourth consecutive game and improved to 5-0 against the Clippers with a 4-1 win over the Nanaimo Clippers.

The Kings got out to an early lead in shot totals and generated a bulk of the early chances, however it was the Clippers to score the games first goal. Clipper forward Sammy Steele beat Mitch Adamyk and the visitors had one against the run of play. The game looked destined to be a 1-0 score after 20, however the Kings tied the game right as the buzzer sounded. Ben Thomas threw a puck towards the net from the right point with Josh Coblenz finding a good tip that hit the post, sat in the crease and was eventually batted in by the goaltender as the buzzer sounded. The goal stood and it was a 1-1 score on Coblenz’s 2nd of the season.

Into the 2nd and the Kings began to take more control of the game, outshooting Nanaimo 14-8 with Neal Samanski lasering a shot past Pavlisin for his 4th of the season and a 2-1 Powell River lead through 40. Shots 22-16 Kings.

Powell River continued to push in the third with a late powerplay giving the Kings some insurance with Josh Coblenz receiving a pass in the high slot, and getting a quality shot away under pressure for his 3rd of the season and a 3-1 advantage. Coblenz would find the empty net on a clearance from the Powell River zone to complete the hattrick, his first in Junior A hockey and help the Kings to their fourth consecutive win, a 4-1 score.
