Kings turn the tables with 3-2 overtime win

Kings turned in another good performance on Saturday evening and evened the score 3-2 in overtime against the Grizzlies.

Game two in two days started in similar fashion to the one on Friday as the teams stuck to their systems and kept it simple.

The Grizzlies broke the ice this time, however, when Powell struck on the powerplay at 13:53.

That one held up until 2:04 of the second period when Matt Scarth fired a wrist shot from 30 feet into the top right corner of the Grizzly net on the powerplay.

Kings got their second goal from Teagan Waugh after Scarth's shot and rebound was put in by the Kings' captain at 7:03 – again on the powerplay.

Kings held the lead late into the third period but Stephen Hiff took a penalty that really could have been called both ways.

He was winning a race for the puck with Jones and Jones had a hold of him but the stronger Hiff fought him off and the two went down with Hiff on top.

The referee called Hiff for the penalty and as good teams do, the Grizzlies made them pay with the tying goal at 17:05.

Kings had a couple of great chances to win the game with the man advantage in the last couple of minutes but the whistle went and it was overtime for the second straight night for the teams.

This time the Kings came out on top and J.P. Villeneuve put everyone out of their misery early.

He intercepted a Pilton pass outside the Grizzly blueline and then broke in with a dazzling puck handling display and roofed a backhand shot up and over Stiliadis

The overtime win was the first for the Kings this year and their bench emptied to join the pile of happy players congratulating Villeneuve.

Two good games for the Kings against the Grizzlies and yet another to play on Tuesday in Victoria.
