Kings unable to hold off Eagles comeback

BURNABY (April 19, 2021) – Holding a 3-0 lead, the Powell River Kings could not hold off a Surrey Eagles comeback, ultimately losing 5-3 on Monday night at Scotia Barn in Burnaby.

Josh Kagan scored with 1:04 remaining in the first period for his league-leading 12th goal of the season. The Kings would proceed to add more to their total, as Adamo Santia would score at 8:37 and Lex Friesen would get his first BCHL goal at 13:15 to make it a 3-0 Kings lead.

Surrey got on the board late in the second period, with Jacob Slipec getting one past goaltender Nick Peters at 16:22. The Eagles would complete their comeback in the final frame, with Gabe Schovanek, Holden Katzalay and Buddy Johnson all getting power play in the span of seven minutes. Brandon Santa Juana put an empty netter to make it a 5-3 final.

Hunter Tarves stopped 29 of 32 shots for the win, while Nick Peters made 22 saves for Powell River.

The Kings return to the ice on Wednesday night against the Coquitlam Express, puck drop is at 8pm.
