Pritchard Set to Join Kings

The Powell River Kings are proud to announce the commitment of 1995-born forward Jacob Pritchard for the 2014/2015 BCHL season.

The 6’0, 185 left winger from Macomb, Michigan brings a good amount of skill to the Kings. “I like to think I’m a skilled forward” says Pritchard. “I tend to go for the pass first, but I can shoot and score too.”

Pritchard comes to the Kings after a season with the Indiana Ice in the USHL where he scored 14 goals and 22 assists in 49 regular season games. In the playoffs, Pritchard helped the Ice to the USHL Championship, the Clark Cup. “We had a great year, it was a lot of fun” says Pritchard. “As soon as the playoffs started it was a lot more intense and more physical and I think having that experience last year will help me in the long run.”

The Ice are now listed as “dormant” by the USHL for the 2014/2015 season as the team develops a new arena to play out of. As a result, all of the Ice players were drafted to other USHL clubs, however Pritchard elected to join the BCHL. “My family, advisor and I decided that Powell River would be a great option for me.” Pritchard also has played in the US National Development Program at both the U17 and U18 levels.

Kings Head Coach and General Manager Kent Lewis was thrilled to add Pritchard to the club. “We’re getting a character kid who was a key player for a championship team in the USHL” says Lewis. “He’s going to be a top line player for us, great in the room and we’re really looking forward to working with him.”

Pritchard comes to the Kings with a Division 1 scholarship to St. Lawrence for the 2015/2016 season. Pritchard earned the commitment during the 2013/2014 campaign after speaking with the school early on in the season. “It’s good to have a college commitment out of the way, it eases the mind” says Pritchard. “I want to continue to get stronger, get more confidence, play a lot of minutes and try to become a better overall player.”

Pritchard will arrive in Powell River late August and join the team for training camp at the end of the month.
