Roloson’s two goals leads Kings to a 2-1 win in Prince George

By: Dante De Caria

Powell River, BC – Brett Roloson scored two power play goals, leading the Powell River Kings (15-14-1) to a 2-1 win over the Prince George Spruce Kings (11-16-5) on Sunday, December 1st, at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.

Roloson had some help – Michael Abgrall’s two assists and Derek Krall’s 28-saves powered the Kings to their sixth win in eight games (6-1-1). The Kings are now above .500 for the first time since October 6th.

“We know we have a good team,” said Krall on the clubs recent success. “We have the ability to win games in this league, it’s just putting out a consistent effort, and if we play as a team, we can beat any team. That’s the receipt.”

The Kings got off to a 2-0 lead midway through the second period, as Roloson’s took a hard pass from Abgrall into the attacking zone, and fired his wrist-shot past Jett Alexander for his 10th goal this season, extending his point-streak to nine games (6G/7A).

“We can’t say enough about Rolly (Brett Roloson), he’s done an awesome job fitting right in,” said Krall. “Two big goals today, and that won us the game.”

Abgrall, with a two assist performance extends his assist-streak to four games (5A), tying a Kings season high. Ben Wozney also tallied an assist on Roloson’s second, giving him points in six of his last seven games (1G/6A).

Krall earned his 11th win this season, and sixth in a Kings uniform. Alexander, who stopped 23 of 25, was saddled with the loss, moving to 11-13-1 this season.

“I had a couple days off, so I was just trying to get my feet wet,” added Krall on his performance. “Prince George came out hot, so we were just trying to tame them, and grab momentum. I was looking to keep the boys in the game.”

Krall later added that this was another solid defensive effort by the Kings, leading to a 2-0-1 road trip.

“They were a rock. I knew they were keeping guys to the outside, and as long as I was seeing the puck, they were going to cleanup the rebounds. They did a great job.”

The Kings win back-to-back games on the road for the first time this season. They also defeat the Spruce Kings in the season series 2-0. With Roloson scoring the opening goal, the Kings improve to 13-0 when scoring first this season.

The Powell River Kings are back in action, this Friday (December 6th) at 7:00 p.m., against the Surrey Eagles for the Kings annual Teddy Bear Toss.
